The transformative process of enlargement cannot be done by itself. You are here as communicators of EU values and you are the key in this process

Michela Matuella, acting Director for the Western Balkans, Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, European Commission

Many activities, webinars, events are behind us, and the number of young people that are following our work is just increasing day by day. And who are we? Well, we are the YEAs and we wish to change our future.

Armin Poljak, Young European Ambassador from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Online activism is helping us build up our courage so that we can truly make a change. Whether you are posting, writing, even just sharing a story - you are saying that something should be shared and talked about – this is all contributing to activism.

Amina Kaja, Young European Ambassador from Kosovo

I really believe that WBs today is a place with a bit more tolerance, cooperation and mutual respect compared to what it was three years ago. I really believe that we, 180 young ambassadors, young activists, young leaders are among those responsible for such a change and we will keep pushing it forward.

Vojin Cetkovic

I am here to uphold the European spirit, which is founded on integrity, solidarity, and diversity, and as a YEA I am looking for opportunities to be their voice. We are the generation whose duty it is to try to overcome the longstanding issues in the Western Balkans; it is our responsibility to set aside our differences and facilitate regional cooperation predicated on these fundamental values, which I am confident all of my colleagues (in this room) share.

Isak Misini

Young people representing the YEA network, through overcoming differences, bring a positive wave of creativeness, openness to cooperation and willingness to work together on improving the region, thus helping it to advance towards the EU.

Srdjan Hromiš

I feel supported, entrusted, and motivated to be part of this team of changemakers and give my contribution as a YEA to connect and empower peers from every corner of the region.

What is the YEA network?

The Young European Ambassadors (YEA) platform is a creative network of future young activists from across the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia).

YEAs come from different backgrounds, yet they all share a common vision: the Western Balkans united in diversity, learning about each other and EU together, promoting activism within their local communities, pursuing creative projects, acquiring new skills, connecting via social media, organising inspiring events – always driven by the idea that activism in youth is the most powerful force of social change.

The YEAs network is a non-political, activist initiative established in 2020 as part of the EU Regional Communication Programme for the Western Balkans – WeBalkans.eu. The 180 YEAs were selected in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and you can meet all of them here: Meet the YEAs

Now already known among youth all over the region as ‘YEAs’, these young game-changers are also here to tell their peers more about the opportunities that the EU offers – for education, skills development, travel, advocacy and much more.

Most importantly, YEAs are open to sharing ideas and developing their talents – towards inspiring change within their communities, the Western Balkans, across the EU and beyond.

The aim of the network is to share EU values and to raise awareness about the EU’s cooperation with its Western Balkan partners, showcase the tangible results of this cooperation, contribute to policy dialogue on various topics, help increase civic activism and work together for a better future.

As a YEA – you are here to create the best version of yourself and show it to the world.
